Wellness Programs Featured on Where the Heart Is

by Mary Harwood on February 15, 2017

wellness programsWe featured our various wellness programs on our public access television show, “Where the Heart Is,” recently. You can watch it here.

In this episode, host Jen Dusablon interviews medical social worker Traci Osterhoudt, a member of the Wellness Team, and Deanna McFadzean, one of our billing specialists. They discuss the various staff-run programs related to workplace wellness in the Agency. These include: Caring Hearts and Hands, Spirit Team, Safety Team and Wellness Team.

Deanna started our Caring Hearts and Hands program about two years ago. Since starting the program, three quarters of our staff have been recognized for going above and beyond. While most recognitions come from colleagues, many of our staff have been recognized by the people they care for. The first time someone is recognized, they receive a pin. Once a month, the group votes on one outstanding recognition to receive a red water bottle.

In this show, they also discuss other wellness related activities that our staff enjoy. This includes our Spirit Team, which provides fun activities for people to get to know each other and to feel appreciated, and our Safety Team, which works to ensure a safe workplace. Our Wellness Team has been active thanks to support from Accountable Blue, a program of BlueCross BlueShield of Vermont. We now have a raised bed where we can grow vegetables in the summer. We have held two goal setting challenges that were well received. Other activities are being planned for 2017.

Thanks to the great work of many staff members, Franklin County Home Health Agency has once again been recognized for our workplace wellness activities by the Governor. Team members Traci Osterhoudt and Bobbi Magnan will go to the upcoming conference to receive our award.
