Maternal Child Health

As an expecting mother or family with infants and children, you have on-going and changing needs.  Our Maternal Child Health program is dedicated to meeting your needs.  Nurses make home visits to promote health, early detection and disease management.

You may also receive teaching about pregnancy, childbirth education, newborn care, breastfeeding, nutrition, child safety, parenting information, resource development and care for special needs infants.

First Steps Childbirth Education
Are you expecting a baby?  Our childbirth education courses help prepare you for the birth and care of your newborn.  Six week courses or one-day classes are available.

Breastfeeding Support
Certified lactation consultants can provide breastfeeding resources and support, and help you and your baby use proper breastfeeding techniques.  Follow-up counseling from lactation consultants is also available.

Better Beginnings
If you register with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont before having a baby, you are eligible for nurse support,  breastfeeding visits and homemaking through Blue Cross and Blue Sheild's Better Beginnings program.

Healthy Babies, Kids and Families
(this link will take you to the Vermont Department of Health website)
This program is part of the health insurance benefits that come with Medicaid and Dr. Dynasaur.
It is a voluntary program for Medicaid eligible pregnant women and their children from birth to age six.

Ask your doctor, midwife or nurse about Healthy Babies, Kids & Families.  A nurse will call you and set up a time to come to your home and talk about the program.  Together, you will plan ahead for what you will need during your pregnancy, childbirth and baby’s first year at home.

Please e-mail us or call (802) 527-7531 for more information about our Maternal Child Health programs.
