Hospice
Volunteers
Volunteers are carefully chosen and complete a 27 hour training
course
preparing them to supplement
the professional services provided by our staff.
They can do many things that Volunteers do not routinely provide personal care, but if the need arises, a volunteer will help patients to be safe and comfortable. Some of the ways volunteers might help: - Stay with the patient while caregiver naps or does errands - Listen to the patient and family with openness when there is a need to simply talk - Help fix meals or snacks - Drive the patient or a family member to appointments or shopping - Do some errands - Take the patient our for lunch or a scenic ride - Do the patient's laundry, dishes or light housekeeping - Help with gardening - Walk the dog or feed the pets - Read or listen to music with the patient - Help with writing cards or letters and taking phone messages - Provide child care - Provide reassurance to the family during stressful times
-
Visit or telephone the family during the period of
