Maternal Child Health

Our Maternal Child Health program is dedicated to meeting the on-going and changing needs
of pregnant women and families with infants and children.  Nurses make home visits to promote health, early detection and disease management.  Nurses teach about pregnancy, childbirth education, newborn care, breastfeeding, nutrition, child safety, parenting information, resource development and care for special needs infants.

Better Beginnings
Nursing, breastfeeding visits and homemaking are available to women who register with
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont before having a baby.

Childbirth Education
Our First Steps Childbirth Education courses help prepare expecting parents for the birth and care of the newborn.  Six week courses or one-day classes are available.

Breastfeeding Support
C
ertified lactation consultants provide breastfeeding resources and support, and help mother and baby use proper breastfeeding techniques.  Follow-up counseling from lactation consultants is also available.

Healthy Babies, Kids and Families
(this link will take you to the Vermont Department of Health website)
Voluntary program for Medicaid eligible pregnant women and their children from birth to age six.
This program is part of the health insurance benefits that come with Medicaid and Dr. Dynasaur.

Ask your doctor, midwife or nurse about Healthy Babies, Kids & Families.  A nurse will call you and set up a time to come to your home and talk about the program.  Together, you will plan ahead for what you will need during your pregnancy, childbirth and baby’s first year at home.
